VARGAS -- Lawrence Charles Vargas, "Hito", "Lorenzo", was called to heaven on July 13, 2008. Born on February 24, 1985, the Lord lent him to us for 23 years. He is the beloved son of Lawrence and Terry Vargas; and big brother to David Edmund who always called Lawrence, "Brother". He was blessed with the love of his grandmother, Rose Aguirre; godparents Debbie Vargas, Ruben Aguirre, and Mario Martinez; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Lawrence Charles joins his grandparents, Edmund Aguirre and David and Mary Vargas in heaven. Lawrence prided himself in his work with the Albuquerque Animal Control Center. Lawrence Charles was a member of Holy Rosary Church. He loved his music, motorcycles, sports, and his life here on Earth. A 2003 West Mesa graduate, he was an accomplished athlete in basketball and baseball. An avid sports fan, he loved those Bulls and Broncos. He was a published artist with his father. Lawrence Charles loved his family, was loyal to his friends and had a compassionate, caring heart. His sense of humor and carefree spirit was a joy to all who knew him. Please join his family in the celebration of his life. Visitation will be from 6:30 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16th, 2008, at Our Lady of the Most Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 5415 Fortuna Dr. NW, with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m by his mother, Terry. Final visitation will be Thursday, July 17, 2008, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., at the church, with Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. by Father Joel Garner. Pallbearers will be David Edmund Vargas, Anthony Montoya, Marty Vargas, Ruben Aguirre, Jason Baca and Timmy Jones. Honorary Pallbearers will be Raymond Tafoya, Brian Vargas, Shawn Vargas, Eddie Aguirre Jr., Andrew Montoya, Ruben A. Aguirre, and all of his cousins, uncles, and friends. IN LOVING MEMORY—
“LAWRENCE CHARLES VARGAS MEMORIAL SHOES-FOR-KIDS
& ACTS OF COMPASSION”

Lawrence Charles was a 23 year old budding artist and aspiring firefighter when he was shot and killed as an innocent bystander.  As a 5th grader at Lew Wallace elementary, he anonymously gave a pair of shoes to a classmate in need.  He was known for his random acts of kindness, including giving shoes throughout his lifetime.

Thus, we have created a project in his memory--Lawrence Charles Vargas Memorial Shoes-for-Kids & Acts of Compassion.  Through the sales of Vargas Art and donations, we have given over 5000 pairs of shoes--to every child at his elementary school, to children and elders of Laguna Pueblo and to Cuidando Los Ninos, a support program for the homeless.  Financial assistance has been given to a young mother who lost her infant to an act of violence as well as another mother who lost one of her twin babies in a car accident.

It is our hope as a healing family to continue shoe giveaways in Lawrence Charles' memory as well as acts of compassion for families who have also lost a child...and eventually scholarships to students pursuing careers within the arts--All this...along with a message of HOPE..and LOVE.  "Love Never Ends"1Cor13:8

“The message is beyond the pair of shoes.  It’s about practicing acts of kindness and compassion—about paying it forward, about hope & healing.  It’s about taking adversity and channeling it into positive outcomes for others…and keeping our son’s spirit alive.”   T. Vargas
