March 1 1958 - January 6 2009

This online memorial was created in loving memory of Rosanne Scaramuzzo-Shanks, whose life story is told throughout this memorial website. Please sign Rosanne's guest book and let us know you came to visit. We will remember Rosanne forever.

Rosanne was born March 1st, 1958 to an Irish mother and an Italian father in Staten Island, NY.  One of 6 Children, Rosanne was the 2nd oldest of 4 girls, 2 boys.  Rosanne was baptized Roman Catholic at St. Joseph parish, in rosebank, the neighborhood where she would live her entire life. She attended St. Joseph Parochial school in rosebank from grades K-8.  During that time, she enjoyed sports, gym class, and spending time with her many siblings and cousins.  She was surely blessed to have so many first cousins around the same age. She went to church every sunday, and enjoyed her mother's (and father's!!!) cooking and learning how to do new things, always family oriented.

Rosanne went on to attend Curtis high school.  Although a public high school, she still practiced her faith and religion attending mass on Sundays.  She was involved in such sports as basketball, volleyball, and was captain of her gym team.

Not to long after Rosanne was out of high school, did she realize her calling in life was to be a nurse. She went straight from high school to the College of  Staten Island for prerequisite courses for nursing.  She completed those courses and had little time for social activity as she then went on to enroll in St. Vincent nursing school, also in Staten Island.  In 1979, only a few short years out of high school, Rosanne was troubled with the fact that she was young, pregnant, unwed, and mostly, unsure if the unborn's father would be present in her life, in her child's life.  Having come to her parents, siblings and friends for advice, she came to the decision to give birth to a beautiful baby girl, whom she named Sharon,  on January 14, 1980.  Everyone was very supportive of her decision, and helped to raise Sharon while Rosanne finished Nursing school and adjusted her life to be a mother, registered nurse, daughter, sister, cousin and friend.

Times were trying as she raised Sharon without her father's involvement in her life. There were many bumps in the road.  Several attempts were made to have her father and father's family involved in her life, but maternal instict and judgement, along with the holy spirit,  guided her to make the right decision, ,  to exclude them from her life to give her a better life.  Looking back, every decision she made helped to shape the beatiful person that she was, and the daughter that she raised, as a perfect picture of values, tradition, faith and love.
