Kenneth Smith Sr., 81, young at heart passed away peacefully at home Aug 13, 2009.
He has 6 kids, grandkids, great- and great-great grandkids & foster kids. He has a sister in Kansas, brothers in Oklahoma.
Ken had a full life of family & faith in Christ. With little education, a lot of drive he taught his family the value of hard work, family focused recreation & a walk with God.
Born in Kansas the 6th of 12 on his own at 15 moved to Washington. While on leave from US Army Ft. Ord he met the love of his life Lillian in Burlington.
In ’51 at PSNS his career was welding, shared his home with men recuping at the naval hospital & shared his faith during lunch hours with his fire watches & any listener with a worn, scorched New Testament.
He served the Bremerton Free Methodist Church on boards, for children & youth programs, and as a licensed lay preacher at rest homes, Tacoma Rescue Mission, Union Gospel Mission. He retired from Shop 26 after 41 years to care for Lillian taking her place cooking for family gatherings. He welded, did handyman tasks at Mexico & Alaska missions & for Warm Beach “Lights of Christmas.”
