David Robert Jenkyns departed this world unexpectedly on March 20, 2011 while cruising with his wife, Sandy. Cause of death pending medical examination.
David was born 7/27/41 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and proudly maintained his Canadian citizenship. He attended school in Winnipeg and moved to the States during his high school years. He graduated from the University of Minnesota and became a 6th grade teacher later moving into educational publishing with CBS as a National Sales Manager. To spend time closer to home, he took jobs with Thomas Register and Penton Publishing. The last 12 years of his working career he opened his own advertising agency, NOVA Communications, Inc.
Dave and Sandy resided in Milwaukee and Muskego, WI following their marriage and blending of families on 6/10/78. They said good byes to family and friends in Wisconsin and retired to Four Lakes Golf Club, Winter Haven, FL in October 2004. Dave loved Four Lakes and the wonderful friends who quickly became his "Florida Family." He was an avid golfer, sports fan and particularly loved his hockey. Dave's true passion was traveling. Throughout his life he exhilarated in being aboard any ship cruising the high seas.
David will be missed and remembered always by his loving family: his wife, Sandy (nee Strakeljahn); son Bob Jenkyns (Kristen) and grandchildren Chris, Danielle, Melanie and Kyle, Hartford, WI; daughter Jennifer Rutzen (Mark) and grandchildren Justin, Tom and Ariana, Morton Grove, IL; stepdaughter Lisa Meyer (Paul) and grandsons Andrew and Kevin, Madison, WI; stepson Rob Bass (Nancy) and grandchildren Brady and Brittany, Edina, MN; father and mother-in-law Bob and Evie Strakeljahn, Lake Mills, WI; brothers-in-law David Strakeljahn, Jupiter, FL and Tom Strakeljahn (Pam), Lancaster, WI. He will also be missed by friends and his Jenkyns family throughout Canada. David joins his beloved Mum, Rhoda, and Dad, Gwilym, in their eternal home. May they rest in peace.
Dave was an advocate of those in need. He volunteered for the Guardian Ad Litem Program in Polk County. He enjoyed lending a hand where needed. As a tribute to Dave the family requests you pay forward, in either an act of kindness or financial assistance to anyone you deem deserving.
