Jerry Garcia is my husband.....He passed from here to his eternal home on March 11, 2012.............Jerry grew up in the south valley of Brazito, New Mexico a rural community on the outskirts of Las Cruces, New Mexico....where he resided since he was 3 years old...it is so beautiful down here the peacefulness is overwhelming....Jerry went to Mesilla Park Elementary, Zia Junior High and Las Cruces High School.......where he excelled in automotive technology under the watchful eye of Cliff Culp his instructor who he always spoke so highly of....

Those who knew Jerry know he was an exceptional person.....he could fix anything....automotive was his passion......He could diagnose a car with just a phone call....and he was never wrong.....In passing people would describe what their auto was doing and he could tell them how to fix it! One of a kind.....I was his assistant...I am now pretty good at diagnosing problems just from his teachings..I was his helper for 25 years...I was also the official spark plug gapper....bought me a gapper and put me to work....

As a kid because of the rural area in which he lived Jerry learned many traits...he could build anything, fabricate anything he was so talented..........Woodworking was another passion and Jerry has an extensive collection of woodworking tools....everything you need to build anything you want and to build it correctly........AS JERRY WOULD SAY IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TOOLS YOU ONLY HAVE TO DO THE JOB ONCE TO GET IT RIGHT....MEASURE TWICE AND CUT ONLY ONCE!  Jerry was a lowrider enthusiast and he built some of the first lowrider show cars in our area.....He could set up complete hydros like no other and the MASTER OF THE SWITCHES!!!!!!  He could hop as high or higher as anyone else........In 1981 Mesilla Valley Mall opened and hosted a custom car show in which Jerry entered his 1976 Lincoln and won first prize.....By these pictures you can see some of his detailed work......owning a tire shop didn't hurt either as he had access to custom rims and tires........When I met Jerry he was customizing a 1970 Chevy truck and a 1968 Chevy El Camino Chevelle SS which ended up being my baby.......and believe me when I say it was one BAD ASS CHEVY! Custom built by Jerry Garcia.........

Jerry also enjoyed racing cars.......whether it was out at the Speedway our local 1/4 mile dirt round track or at the DRAGS......Always wanted to go to Mile High in Colorado for the drags......................we missed it several times we would be in the vicinity and the Drags were the week before.............Finally he made it to the big Drags in Phoenix with good friends, Reuben Gomez and his two sons, Michael and Joseph....Jerry still talked about what a great time he had........................
