Josh Villarreal, a 15-year-old Mt. Whitney freshman, died Thursday after battling colon cancer.
Villarreal was set to join the Mt. Whitney freshman football team in August, but stomach cramps prevented him from taking part in practice. After extensive tests, it was found that he had cancer in his intestines and stomach.
The Facebook page titled "Josh Tackles Cancer," which has provided updates on Villarreal's condition since August, announced his passing on Thursday night.
There is a memorial service scheduled for 9 a.m. Friday at Grace Community Church (424 N. Lovers Lane).
God Saw You Getting Tired
God saw you getting tired
When a cure was not to be.
So He wrapped His arms around you,
And whispered, “Come unto me”.
You didn’t deserve what you went through,
And so He gave you rest.
God’s garden must be beautiful,
He only takes the best.
So when I saw you sleeping,
So peaceful and free from pain.
I could not wish you to come back,
to suffer that all again.
Life is but a stopping place, A pause in what's to be, A resting place along the road, to sweet eternity. We all have different journeys, Different paths along the way, We all were meant to learn some things, but never meant to stay.... Our Destination is a place, Far greater than we know. For some the journey's quicker, For some the journey's slow. And when the journey finally ends, We'll claim a great reward, And find an everlasting peace, Together with the Lord.
Josh (Nunie) thought he would stop the tears for a minute to bring us together in laughter. Some of the balloons his cousins released got stuck in the branches of this large tree. You always did know how to bring a smile to our faces. Love & miss you forever! #TeamJoshForever
