Celebrating with Red Hats
Marie R. Straw, of W. Covina, CA, died Mar. 7, 2017, at age 90.
Born in Pennsylvania, in June, 1926, she came to California in 1955 and lived there until her death; was predeceased by her husband of 56 years, Earl W. Straw, Jr., in 2006.
Daughter Ellen, Son Earl, two grand daughters and two great grandchildren;
sisters: Alice and Margaret & numerous nieces and nephews survive Marie.
An avid reader, she loved listening to children read in a R.A.P. program at the elementary schools all her adult life. Looked forward to celebrating with her friends and family on any special occasion. She was in the Red Hats of W. Covina and Covina. She was also a retired cosmetologist and a member of Christ First Baptist Church Covina since 1956.
After writing poetry and her decades of memories, at age 79, some of her articles were published in the Journal of the Blooming Grove, PA Historical Society and some of her poems were published in San Gabriel Valley Tribune in the section “Rhyme and Reason.”
Over the years, Marie hand knitted over 1,000 personalized Christmas stockings for children and adults all over the U.S A. and overseas.
Interment at Oakdale Memorial Park, Glendora, California.
