Dalton Staley Hickson
August 3 1993 - April 3 2003

This online memorial was created in loving memory of Dalton Staley Hickson, whose life story is told throughout this memorial website. Please sign Dalton's guest book and let us know you came to visit. We will remember Dalton forever. Dalton, I love you so much. I miss that smile that would light up a room and those dark eyes that sparkled when you laughed. You're with me always. As hard as it was for me to see you die that morning, I would never have wanted to be anywhere else but with you. I don't think I could stand the thought of you being alone. It still haunts me, wondering if you were scared, wondering if you understood what was happening as you made your transition from this world to the other. I'll love you forever, Mom

My beautiful boy, Dalton, was hit and killed on April 3, 2003 by a sixteen year old girl while he was crossing the road to board his school bus. The driver did not stop or even slow down for the school bus stop arm, or for my son, who was in plain sight on a long, flat, stretch of road. He lost his life to a careless, irresponsible driver who was also on their way to school. She told us in court depositions that "She just didn't see the big yellow bus stopped in the road with it's stop arm extended and the red lights flashing".

To All Parents By: Edgar Guest "I'll lend you for a while a child of mine," He said. "For you to love the while he lives and mourn for when he's dead. It may be six or seven years, or twenty-two or three, But will you, till I call him back, take care of him for me? He'll bring his charms to gladden you, and should his stay be brief, You'll have his lovely memories as solace for your grief." "I cannot promise he will stay; since all from earth return, But there are lessons taught down there I want this child to learn. I've looked the wide world over in My search for teachers true And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes I have chosen you. Now will you give him all your love, not think the labor vain, Nor hate Me when I come to call to take him back again?" "I fancied that I heard them say, "Dear Lord, Thy will be done! For all the joy Thy child shall bring, the risk of grief we run. We'll shelter him with tenderness, we'll love him while we may, And for the happiness we've known, forever grateful stay; But should the angels call for him much sooner than we've planned, We'll brave the bitter grief that comes and try to understand." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
